Spring Into Health: Four Pillars for a Healthier You

Spring is the season of renewal, making it the perfect time to refresh your health and wellness routine. On this week’s Wellness Wednesday, Starkey Sowers from Clark’s Nutrition outlined four key pillars to help improve overall well-being: exercise, diet, supplementation, and sleep.

Pillar 1: Exercise for a Stronger Body

Regular physical activity does more than just help with weight management—it enhances mental clarity, reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s, improves mood, and promotes better sleep. Strength training, in particular, is crucial for maintaining bone health. “Lifting weights can prevent osteoporosis and reduce hip and knee issues,” Sowers explained.

Pillar 2: Improve Your Diet

A healthier diet doesn’t mean a drastic overhaul. Instead, Sowers recommends adding just a few nutritious staples to your pantry. One easy swap? Ezekiel 4:9 cereals and breads for a more nutrient-dense breakfast option. “Just start with four or five healthy items in your kitchen,” he advised.

Pillar 3: Fill in the Gaps with Supplements

Even with a well-balanced diet, getting all essential nutrients can be difficult. Sowers emphasized the importance of multivitamins and Omega-3s to support overall health. He also highlighted magnesium, a critical nutrient that supports hormone function and muscle health, but is often lacking in modern diets. One favorite supplement among his clients? A lemon meringue-flavored Omega-3 that tastes so good, even kids love it.

Pillar 4: Prioritize Sleep

Sowers stressed the importance of sleep for healing and recovery. He introduced tart cherry juice, a natural remedy that has been linked to better sleep and reduced inflammation. “I had a friend who was about to have hip surgery, but after using tart cherry, she didn’t need it,” he shared. The juice also contains natural melatonin, making it a great alternative to traditional sleep aids.

By focusing on these four pillars—exercise, diet, supplements, and sleep—anyone can take small steps toward a healthier lifestyle this spring.
