Indio Launches Free Program to Support Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs

The city of Indio is stepping up to support local entrepreneurs and small businesses with the launch of Indio Business Connect, a new program offering free counseling sessions and access to resources on how to apply for grants and small loans.

NBC Palm Springs' Brett Rosen spoke with local business owners who say the program is already making a difference. Josiah Gonzalez, part owner of Little Street Music Hall, emphasized the challenges small businesses face when starting out. “You’re kind of fighting for your life when you first start,” he said, noting that using all available resources is essential.

Among the more than 200 participants in the program is Tanya Rico, co-owner of Rico Designs. She says Indio Business Connect is helping her understand the behind-the-scenes aspects of running a business, such as writing a business plan and preparing for future funding opportunities.

The program offers weekly walk-in and appointment-based sessions at Little Street Music Hall, led by the Coachella Valley Women’s Business Center. “We meet them where they’re at,” said Jasmine Gudino, the center’s director. “Whether it’s social media marketing or applying for loans, we guide them step by step.”

Statistics show one in four U.S. businesses fail within the first year, but Indio Business Connect aims to change that by providing education, support, and connection to other local entrepreneurs.

There are three ways to qualify for the program: by being a resident of Indio, by owning a bussiness with an Indio address, or having an Indio-based businesses with a valid business license.
