Former Yankee Brett Gardner’s 14-Year-Old Son Dies Suddenly While on Family Vacation

Tragic news tonight involving former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, whose 14-year-old son, Miller, died unexpectedly while the family was on vacation in Costa Rica.

According to Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency, the teenager was found in a hotel room on Friday, March 21, and appeared to have died from asphyxiation following a possible intoxication, reportedly linked to something he ate. The exact cause of death has not been confirmed, and authorities are awaiting autopsy results.

Gardner and his wife, Jessica, released a heartfelt statement, saying:

“Miller left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation. We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep.”

The sudden loss has deeply affected the baseball community. Carlos Mendoza, current New York Mets manager and former coach of Gardner, became emotional when reflecting on the tragedy. “I got two boys too, and they were pretty close,” he said.

Miller was described as a vibrant teen who loved hunting, fishing, baseball, golf, and football. He proudly wore the number 11, just like his father, who spent his entire 14-season career with the Yankees.

The New York Yankees shared a public message of support, writing:

“Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss.”

The outpouring of love and support from fans, friends, and fellow players continues as the Gardner family grieves this devastating loss.
