Protesters Rally in Palm Springs to Protect Chuckwalla National Monument Amid Reversal Fears
A large crowd gathered Saturday at Downtown Palm Springs Park to protest potential efforts to reverse the designation of the Chuckwalla National Monument. The rally was sparked by growing concern that President Trump may attempt to undo the proclamation made by former President Biden, which granted national monument status to the Chuckwalla region.
Supporters rallied to voice their commitment to preserving public lands and protecting the jobs of federal workers who help maintain and manage them.
“So making sure that we're protecting public land and protecting all of our federal workers, especially with everything going on in D.C. right now — it's more important than ever,” said one demonstrator. “They need job security, and our lands need to stay safe for future generations.”
Organizers say they were moved by the strong turnout, especially given the soaring weekend temperatures. “This is amazing. It's the first day that's been this hot, and just seeing this many people out here warms my heart,” said one participant. “It makes me truly believe that we can do this in 2026.”
The demonstration was peaceful and filled with passionate voices advocating for environmental protection and long-term public stewardship.
