Selena Quintanilla death 30 Year Anniversary

Nearly 30 years after music legend Selena Quintanilla-Perez's death, her killer, Yolanda Saldivar, is being considered for parole. This coming Monday will mark 30 years since the Tejano super star was killed by her fan club's president. Saldivar, now 64, is serving a life sentence for the march 1995 murder. On Sunday, she is up for parole for the very first time. If granted, she would be released to serve the remainder of her sentence in the community under supervision. In a tragedy that shattered Mexican Americans, Texans, and fans of Tejano music, Saldivar, then 34, fatally shot the star -- simply known as Selena to her fans -- at a days inn hotel in corpus Christi on march 31st, 1995. Selena had gone to Saldivar's room to pick up business records she needed for a tax filing. A confrontation followed. Selena was shot in the back with a .38-caliber revolver in the room, ran outside and collapsed in the lobby. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead about an hour later. At the time, Selena was 23 years old, just weeks shy of her 24th birthday. She had recently discovered that Saldivar, who had been president of her fan club and managed her clothing boutiques, was embezzling money. Saldivar was found guilty of first-degree murder in Selena's murder and on October 26th, 1995, she was sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 30 years.
