Winter Olympic Sliding Center Reopens in Italy After $128M Rebuild
With less than a year to go before the 2026 Winter Olympics, athletes are now getting a feel for the newly rebuilt Eugino Monti Sliding Center in Italy. The historic track, originally constructed in the 1920s, has undergone a $128 million renovation to meet modern safety and competition standards.
Located in the northern Italian Alps, the center will host bobsled, skeleton, and luge events during the upcoming games in February. This week, 60 athletes are participating in initial test runs to evaluate the updated track and provide feedback to organizers.
The project had faced delays and uncertainty, with Italian officials at one point considering building an entirely new venue rather than restoring the original. However, the historic significance of the Eugino Monti Center—named after Italy’s legendary Olympic bobsledder—ultimately secured its place in the 2026 Games.
Organizers are now racing to ensure the facility is fully operational and competition-ready in time for the global spotlight next year.
