Teen Killed in Early Morning Mecca Shooting; West Shores High School Mourns Student

A tragic shooting in Mecca early Wednesday morning has left one teenager dead. According to authorities, the incident happened near Avenue 66 around 1 a.m. Deputies responding to the scene found a female victim with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim, and no arrests have been made.

Later that day, the Coachella Valley Unified School District issued a statement acknowledging the loss of a student at West Shores High School in Salton City. While the district did not confirm any connection to the Mecca shooting, they expressed condolences and stated, "We cannot share any confidential details about the incident out of respect for the privacy of those involved."

At this time, it's unknown if the student mentioned by the district and the victim in Mecca are the same individual.
