Sundance Film Festival Leaving Park City, Utah After 40 Years — Moving to Boulder in 2027
After more than 40 years in Park City, Utah, the Sundance Film Festival is preparing for a major move. Starting in 2027, the iconic event will be held in Boulder, Colorado, marking the end of an era for one of the most celebrated festivals in independent cinema.
The Sundance Institute announced the relocation after a year-long search that included six finalist cities. Officials evaluated various factors such as city infrastructure, venue capacity, and logistical support before selecting Boulder as the new host.
“We’re thrilled to begin this next chapter of Sundance in Boulder,” said a representative from the Institute. “It’s a city that aligns with our values and has the resources to grow and support the festival’s future.”
Colorado Governor Jared Polis also praised the decision, saying he is “thrilled” to welcome Sundance to his state and believes the move will bring significant cultural and economic benefits.
The final festivals in Park City are expected to be especially meaningful as the film community prepares to say goodbye to its longtime mountain home.
