Latina Actresses Shine On Local Stage

A local production is putting Latinas at the forefront through a powerful, poetic performance.
The play, Black Butterfly, Jaguar Girl, Piñata Woman, and Other Superhero Girls Like Me, is written by Luis Alfaro.
It's being brought to life by local artists at The Green Room Theater.
Four actresses take the stage to portray characters inspired by real-life struggles.
They are the daughters of immigrants, telling stories that resonate deeply in the Coachella Valley.
Through poems and monologues, girls aged 12 to 16 share their truths.
They speak of identity, ambition, pain, and perseverance.
Their voices reflect the everyday battles faced by young Latinas growing up in America.
The play reminds audiences that you don’t need a cape to be a superhero.
One actress said she relates to every role on stage — because she’s lived it too.
Director David Catanzarite hopes the play opens doors for local talent.
He believes East Valley voices deserve to be heard just as much as those in L.A.
