Senior Under Sheriff's Detention Dies
An 85-year-old inmate from the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside succumbed to ailments stemming from a longtime debilitating condition. Morris Joseph Chaisson of Cathedral City died Tuesday after more than three months in the correctional infirmary at the Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Chaisson had been under intensive care since November 21, when he began to seriously decline, Sgt. Christopher Wedel said. ``With the consent of his family, he was placed on supportive care,'' Wedel said. ``However, he ultimately succumbed.'' The specific nature of the detainee's illness was not disclosed. The death was technically an in-custody loss due to Chaisson's detention status, even though he was not physically in a jail cell at the time. There was no word regarding for what Chaisson had been jailed, or exactly how long he had been at the downtown jail.
