Former Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet and Developer John Wessman Going To Trial Next Week

Former Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet's trial is scheduled to proceed next week in Banning.

Pougnet and his co-defendant, John Wessman, appeared at the Larson Justice Center in Indio Thursday morning, where it was decided to have the trial proceed as planned.

That is now scheduled for May 6th at the Banning Justice Center.

Pougnet and Wessman were arrested nearly a decade ago, alongside Richard Meaney, with Pougnet accused of accepting payments from the other two to support their development projects.

Meaney, in 2023, pleaded guilty in the case to misdemeanor "conflict of Interest" charges.

Pougnet was mayor of Palm Springs from 2007 to 2015.

NBC Palm Springs Reporter Brett Rosen will have more on the case tonight at 5 pm and 6 pm, so don't miss it.
