CSUSB Palm Desert Awarded $88,000 Grant to Expand Nursing Street Medicine Program

Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert campus has received a significant boost for its Nursing Street Medicine program, thanks to an $88,000 grant from the Desert Health Care District and Foundation.

The program delivers essential health care services to unhoused and underserved populations across the Coachella Valley while providing nursing students with critical clinical training opportunities. The funding will allow the program to expand its reach, improve access to care, and offer enhanced educational experiences for students.

The Nursing Street Medicine initiative brings free medical care directly to shelters, encampments, and other community sites. By doing so, it addresses both immediate health needs and longer-term challenges facing vulnerable populations.

CSUSB officials say the grant will also help support the development of nursing students’ clinical skills, preparing them to meet the diverse needs of patients in real-world settings.
