Two Dead, Three Injured After Big Rig Crosses Median in Six-Car Crash on I-10 Near Bob Hope Exit

Two people were killed and three others seriously injured in a major collision involving six vehicles on Interstate 10 near the Bob Hope Drive exit in Rancho Mirage. The crash, which happened just before 7 a.m. Thursday, involved a semi truck that veered across the center median into oncoming traffic.

Video posted to social media captured the shocking moment the big rig crossed over the railing from the westbound side into the eastbound lanes, slamming into several vehicles. Cal Fire Riverside confirmed two fatalities at the scene. Three additional people were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, including one driver who was ejected from their vehicle during the impact.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the driver of the semi truck was determined to be at fault for the incident. The cleanup and investigation forced a full closure of I-10 eastbound for several hours as emergency crews responded.

By Thursday afternoon, all lanes had reopened, though authorities say the crash investigation is ongoing.

Motorists traveling through Rancho Mirage are advised to continue driving with caution as CHP works to finalize its report on the incident.
