Labor Day Protests Under ‘Workers Over Billionaires’ Banner Planned in Riverside

Labor Day was marked today with marches and rallies across the country, including events in major cities like Boston and Chicago. The demonstrations are being held under the banner “Workers Over Billionaires,” with organizers highlighting concerns about wealth inequality and the influence of billionaires in national politics.

The rallies are being coordinated by Mayday Strong, a coalition of labor, political, and environmental organizations. Their stated goal is to remind Americans of the collective power of the working class, especially at a time when organizers say billionaires are playing an outsized role in shaping political outcomes.

Here in the Inland Empire, a rally is planned tonight in Riverside. The volunteer-organized event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Market Avenue and University Avenue. Local residents are expected to join the national movement in calling for greater recognition of workers’ rights and fair economic policies.

The demonstrations are part of a broader push to re-center Labor Day on its original purpose: honoring workers while also calling attention to ongoing labor and economic issues.
