Roblox Faces Michigan Lawsuit Over Minor Safety Allegations

Gaming platform Roblox Corporation is defending against a Michigan lawsuit that alleges the company failed to protect minors from predators on its platform.

The case, filed by law firm Stinar Gould Grieco & Hensley, centers on an 11-year-old Dickinson County girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by an adult she met through the Roblox gaming platform. The incidents reportedly began in 2016.

According to the lawsuit, predators exploit Roblox's virtual currency system to target children. "Robux," the platform's in-game currency that can only be purchased with real money through gift cards or the website, is allegedly used by adults to coerce minors into sending explicit material or arranging in-person meetings.

Lead attorney Steven Vanderporten argues that allowing unrestricted trading of Robux between adults and children creates dangerous vulnerabilities. The legal team is demanding a jury trial rather than private arbitration, citing the potential therapeutic value of public proceedings for victims.

Roblox responded to the allegations, stating that safety remains a "top priority." The company says it dedicates "substantial resources, including advanced technology and 24/7 human moderation" to detect inappropriate content and prevent attempts to direct users to less moderated platforms.
