Hard-Hitting Hail Storm Strikes Palm Desert as Monsoon Weather Lingers
Palm Desert residents were caught off guard today when a sudden hail storm pounded parts of the city. The brief but intense burst of hail left streets slick and had many pulling out their phones to capture the unusual desert weather.
The NBC Palm Springs weather team says the hail was tied to a monsoon surge bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Coachella Valley. Heavy rainfall and gusty winds accompanied the hail in some neighborhoods, with the system moving quickly through the area.
Forecasters say more pop-up storms are possible this afternoon and evening, with chances tapering off later tonight. Tomorrow’s outlook calls for partly cloudy skies with a return to warmer, drier conditions heading into the weekend.
Residents are urged to stay weather aware and check the NBC Palm Springs forecast for the latest updates as the desert’s monsoon season continues.
