No Kings Day Rally Scheduled In The Coachella Valley This Weekend

Protesters will gather in the Coachella Valley on Saturday, October 18th for No Kings Day rallies, part of a nationwide demonstration against actions taken by the current presidential administration.

Three local rallies are scheduled: two at 9 a.m. in Cathedral City at Avenue Lalo Guerrero and in South Palm Springs, and another at 4 p.m. at Sunrise Park in Palm Springs. The events locally are being organized by Courageous Resistance and Indivisible of the Desert.

According to nokings.org, the organization coordinating the nationwide effort, over 2,500 events are scheduled across all 50 states for Saturday. This marks the second major No Kings Day mobilization this year. The first, held on June 14th, drew participation across the country.

The protests are being organized by a coalition that includes the ACLU, American Federation of Teachers, Indivisible, MoveOn, SEIU, and other advocacy organizations. A group called Home of the Brave is running a $1 million advertising campaign in local and national newspapers this week to promote the rallies.

Organizers have stated that all events are committed to nonviolent protest, with training provided in de-escalation techniques. More information about local events is available at nokings.org.
