PSUSD High School Students Train for Real-World Emergencies During Earthquake Drill

Palm Springs Unified high schoolers are learning how to save lives.

Today at Desert Hot Springs High School, 15 cadets from the Public Safety Academy set up a triage tent and practiced responding to mock earthquake injuries. It’s all part of hands-on training to prepare for real emergencies.

Meanwhile, at Cathedral City High School, students with the Health Environmental Academy of Learning — or HEAL — joined the effort. Thirty students assessed, triaged and treated staff members acting as injured victims.

The drill is a coordinated effort with Cathedral City Fire and other local first responders, aimed at sharpening communication, teamwork and emergency response skills.

Educators say these kinds of drills help students build confidence and prepare for real-world disaster situations that might save lives.
