Amazon Web Services experienced widespread technical issues Monday that disrupted numerous popular websites and online platforms for several hours.

The outage affected a broad range of services, including social media platforms Snapchat, Reddit, and Facebook; gaming services Roblox and Fortnite; streaming platforms Disney Plus and Hulu; payment app Venmo; and airlines Delta and United. Amazon-linked smart home devices also experienced connectivity problems.

Problems began overnight and continued throughout Monday morning. While Amazon reported most systems were restored by late afternoon, some issues persisted through the day.

The disruption originated from a DNS failure at an AWS server in Northern Virginia, which triggered cascading problems across Amazon's server network.
