U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Begins Journey from Nevada to Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Capitol Christmas tree is officially on its way to Washington, D.C. The 53-foot red fir, affectionately named “Silver Bell,” was harvested Friday from the Carson Ranger District in Nevada and will now make its way east in a festive cross-country journey.

Along the route, Silver Bell will visit parades, festivals, and community celebrations in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kentucky. Each stop will feature holiday events where residents can see the tree up close before it arrives at its final destination on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

The annual tradition, often called “The People’s Tree,” dates back to 1964 and celebrates the spirit of unity and joy across America. Each year, a different national forest provides the tree, with communities along the route contributing handmade ornaments and decorations.

This year’s red fir will be adorned with thousands of lights and ornaments made by residents from Nevada and surrounding states. Once installed, the tree will be lit in early December during a ceremony attended by members of Congress and the public.

From its mountain home to the nation’s capital, Silver Bell’s journey symbolizes connection, celebration, and the shared holiday spirit across the country.
