25 Years-to-Life: Jake Haro sentenced for the murder of his 7-Month old Son
Jake Haro was expected back in court today for sentencing after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his seven-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro. The hearing, originally scheduled for 8:30 a.m., was delayed to 2 p.m., according to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
Just over two weeks ago, during a felony settlement conference, Haro entered guilty pleas to second-degree murder, one count of child endangerment, and one count of filing a false police report. He now faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
The case began more than two months ago when Rebecca Haro, Emmanuel’s mother, reported her infant son missing. One week later, both Rebecca and Jake Haro were arrested at their Cabazon home and charged with murder. Rebecca continues to plead not guilty. Her felony settlement conference is set for January 21.
NBC Palm Springs obtained a sentencing memorandum from the district attorney’s office detailing Haro’s prior abuse case involving his daughter, Carolina Haro. In 2023, Carolina suffered multiple fractures to her ribs and skull. Haro pled guilty and was sentenced to 180 days in county jail, with a six-year prison term suspended as part of his probation.
In the current case, prosecutors are asking that Haro first serve the upper term of six years for the abuse of Carolina, followed by the 25-years-to-life sentence for the murder of Emmanuel.
Deputy District Attorney Brandon Smith wrote in his sentencing memo, “If there are lower forms of evil in this world, I am not aware of them.”
