Is Your Makeup Aging You? Local Beauty Expert Shares Game-Changing Tips for Women Over 50

Your go-to makeup routine from your 30s might actually be making you look older, according to beauty industry legend William Squire of Billy Blue's Cosmetics.

Squire, who has spent 40 years getting celebrities red carpet ready and exclusively uses models over 50 in his campaigns, revealed surprising techniques that can take years off your appearance during an interview with NBC Palm Springs.

His number one tip? Blue mascara. "It creates brightness to the eye because you get a navy blue around that white and the white pops," Squire explained during the live demonstration. The velvety navy shade is far from the bright blue of the 80s and provides subtle depth without harshness.

Other major mistakes women make include using powder foundation, which Squire says he doesn't even keep in his makeup kit anymore, and choosing foundation shades that are too dark.

"The skin and the oils in the skin will turn your foundation just a little darker," he noted, recommending going half a shade lighter than you think you need.

The Palm Springs-based beauty expert, whose models range from their 50s to their 90s, demonstrated several other age-defying techniques including strategic illuminator placement and foundation application methods.
