Multiple Roads Remain Closed Across Coachella Valley After Christmas Eve Flooding
A Christmas Eve storm brought flash flooding to the Coachella Valley, forcing road closures that remain in effect as of Friday morning. Another weather system is moving in from the west, bringing a chance of additional light rain later today.
In Palm Springs, three roads at wash crossings have been shut down since Wednesday afternoon: N. Indian Canyon Drive between Sunrise Parkway and Garnet Avenue, N. Gene Autry Trail from E. Via Escuela to Salvia Road, and E. Vista Chino between Clubhouse View Drive and Carmela. The Palm Springs Police Department says they're working with the city to keep these roads closed through Friday due to the incoming rain.
Desert Hot Springs is also dealing with flooding impacts. Indian Canyon Road is closed between Pierson Boulevard and Mission Lakes Boulevard, and Little Morongo Road is shut down at the wash between Two Bunch Palms Trail and Dillon Road.
The Coachella Valley can expect mid to upper 60s today under building clouds, with the heaviest rainfall staying to the west in LA County. A flood watch is in effect for areas west of the valley. Saturday and Sunday look dry with sunshine and temperatures just below normal.
Drivers should use alternate routes and avoid attempting to cross flooded areas.
