95-Year-Old Man Sets World Records at Rubik’s Cube Competition

A lifelong hobby turned into a historic achievement for a 95-year-old man from New York who has now etched his name into the record books of competitive Rubik’s Cube solving.

Frank Zieminski made history at the Two Buffalo Cube Days 2026 competition, where he set three world records in the senior category. His most notable accomplishment was becoming the oldest person ever to solve a standard 3x3 Rubik’s Cube in competition, posting a winning time of 5 minutes and 49 seconds.

Zieminski said the pressure of competition made the moment especially intense, noting that solving the cube under the clock felt very different from practicing on his own. Despite that, he says the experience was rewarding and even easier than he expected.

Family and friends were on hand to cheer him on, including his daughters, who described the moment as their father’s version of the Super Bowl. They say his determination has always been part of who he is, adding that when he commits to something, he gives it his all.

Zieminski didn’t stop with just one record. He also set two additional senior-category world records in the 2x2 cube, earning one for a single solve and another for the best average time across three solves.

His passion for speed cubing was reignited in recent years after he connected with the Buffalo Speed Cube Club, which meets at the Orchard Park Library. Members of the club competed alongside him and were there to support his milestone performance.

Zieminski says he has no plans to slow down and intends to keep practicing and competing, proving that age is no barrier to learning new skills or setting new records.
