Cluster of Earthquakes Reported Near Indio, Largest Measured at 4.6

A cluster of earthquakes was reported near Indio tonight, with multiple tremors occurring within a matter of minutes and being felt across parts of the Coachella Valley.
The initial and strongest quake was measured at magnitude 4.6, centered roughly 12 miles from Indio. Within minutes of that event, three additional earthquakes were recorded in the same general area, with preliminary magnitudes of 2.8, 3.4, and 3.3.
Seismologists say it is not uncommon for a moderate earthquake to be followed by several smaller aftershocks as stress continues to adjust along nearby fault lines. Magnitude estimates are considered preliminary and may be revised as more seismic data is analyzed.
Residents in and around Indio reported feeling shaking during the sequence, but there have been no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage.
Officials encourage anyone who felt the earthquakes to monitor updates from official seismic agencies and to report their experience through earthquake reporting tools, which help researchers better understand how widely the shaking was felt.
This remains a developing situation, and updates will be shared as additional information is confirmed.
