More Americans Turning to Entrepreneurship as Small Business Ownership Rises

A growing number of Americans are choosing to become their own boss, with new studies showing a significant increase in small business startups across the country.

NBC Palm Springs’ Kai Beech spoke with local entrepreneur Sue Moss, who is starting her business from scratch after making a major career shift. Moss traded the courtroom for the kitchen, leaving her career in law to start a home-based baking business called Baked by Sue. She says the move was driven by a desire for stability and control in an uncertain job market.

Experts say Moss is part of a larger trend fueled by changes in corporate pay structures, return-to-office policies, and a renewed focus on pursuing personal passions. Moss says she’s experienced those challenges firsthand but believes the rewards outweigh the risks.

“You’re working for yourself,” Moss said. “You know who you’re working for, and that is a guarantee.”
