Investigation Underway After Human Remains Found in Cathedral City Drainage Port

An investigation is underway in Cathedral City after human remains were discovered Tuesday in a drainage port on the Date Palm Drive overpass.

According to Cathedral City Police, Caltrans crews were conducting routine inspections of drainage ports along the roadway when they made the discovery. Police officers responded to the scene shortly afterward and confirmed the finding.

Authorities say they are currently waiting for the Riverside County Coroner’s Office to arrive and take over the investigation. At this time, the cause of death remains unknown.

Due to the ongoing investigation, traffic impacts are in place in the area. The eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 10 at Date Palm Drive is closed, along with one northbound lane of Date Palm Drive.

Police have not released additional details, and the investigation remains ongoing. Officials say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
