Friends of the Children Launches First Fundraiser to Support Long-Term Youth Mentoring in Palm Springs

Friends of the Children marked a milestone in the Coachella Valley with its first-ever local fundraising celebration, held at the Shag House in Palm Springs. The event brought together supporters, families, and community leaders to raise money for the group’s long-term professional mentoring program aimed at helping children overcome systemic challenges.

Part of a national network that has served youth for more than three decades, the organization focuses on early intervention and consistency. Children are paired with trained, paid mentors who provide guidance and support for up to 12 years, building stable relationships that extend from elementary school through high school graduation.

Organizers say this long-term commitment sets the program apart from traditional short-term mentorships, allowing mentors to address academic, social, and emotional needs over time. The approach is designed to help children develop confidence, resilience, and life skills that can lead to improved educational outcomes and future opportunities.

The evening also emphasized community connection, with attendees celebrating the organization’s expanding presence in the Coachella Valley. Leaders hope the fundraiser becomes an annual tradition, strengthening local support and ensuring more youth have access to reliable mentorship and resources for years to come.
