Former Palm Springs Mayor Lisa Middleton to Receive 2026 Community Service Award

She made history in Palm Springs and helped guide the city through some of its most pivotal years. Former Mayor Lisa Middleton is being honored for her lasting impact on the community. Middleton was first elected to the Palm Springs City Council in 2017 and later became the first openly transgender mayor in California history. Her leadership marked a milestone not only for the city but for inclusive representation across the state. This Saturday, Middleton will receive the 2026 Community Service Award at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, the Coachella Valley’s largest annual fundraiser. The event is hosted by DAP Health, a Palm Springs–based, award-winning health center providing stigma-free care to more than 88,000 patients across Southern California.

In an interview with NBC Palm Springs Mary Strong, Middleton reflected on what the recognition means to her and the community she continues to serve.

She also spoke about how breaking barriers shaped her leadership style, her commitment to public service, and what’s next in her political journey. Middleton shared words of encouragement for young people and future leaders hoping to make a positive difference in their communities.

The Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards take place Saturday, February 21. All proceeds benefit DAP Health and its mission to expand access to inclusive, compassionate healthcare.

Tickets and additional information are available at daphealth.org/thechase.
