Alpine Zoo Joins Moon Ridge Winter Games Celebration in Big Bear
The Alpine Zoo, home to more than 190 animals, is stepping into the spotlight as part of the Moon Ridge Winter Games Village and Olympic celebrations in Big Bear Lake.
As thousands head to the mountains for winter festivities, the zoo is embracing its role in the community-wide celebration. Leaders say their plan is to support staffing and volunteers each weekend during the Winter Games, helping showcase interactive events for families and children.
Activities will include foam hockey, kid-safe games, and snow-inspired fun designed to bring the Olympic spirit to life. Organizers say the goal is to create engaging experiences that build community involvement while highlighting the excitement of the games for younger visitors.
Beyond the festivities, zoo officials say participation is about something bigger. With the 2028 Summer Olympics on the horizon, they see this as a chance to build momentum not only for the town, but for the region as a whole.
“We’re building a platform to take off for 2028,” organizers shared, noting that Big Bear’s altitude and mountain setting put it in what they call a “perfect Goldilocks zone.” As Los Angeles prepares to host the Olympics, community leaders believe Big Bear can ride that wave of excitement — drawing visitors, strengthening local foundations, and showcasing everything the mountain town has to offer.
For the Alpine Zoo, it’s a chance to connect wildlife education with community celebration, ensuring both residents and visitors feel part of something larger as the road to 2028 continues.
