Storm damage and wash closures continue across Palm Springs as more rain and wind move in
Stormy weather continues to impact the Coachella Valley after strong winds and rain moved through overnight, causing damage and road closures across Palm Springs.
Footage sent to the newsroom shows two roofs damaged by powerful wind gusts along Kings Point Road. Residents say utility crews are on scene assessing the situation, highlighting just how intense the winds were during the storm.
Flood-prone wash crossings remain a major concern. Gene Autry Trail at the wash is closed from East Via Escuela to Salvia Road. North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash is also shut down and has been closed since late Monday night. Officials say closures could remain in place throughout the week as additional rain and wind systems move into the region.
Residents are urged to prepare for possible flooding. Sandbags are now available at multiple pickup locations across Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Cathedral City. Officials recommend those living in flood-prone areas collect sandbags as soon as possible.
City leaders continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates as weather impacts change. For the latest road closures and sandbag locations, head to NBCPalmSprings.com.
