Scrubs Revival Brings Original Cast Back for New Season on ABC
The hit medical comedy Scrubs is making a return, bringing familiar faces back to the hospital halls while introducing a new generation of characters.
The revival premieres Wednesday on ABC and reunites many of the original stars, including Donald Faison, Zach Braff, and Sarah Chalke. Longtime fan favorites John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes also return, along with series creator Bill Lawrence as executive producer.
Like the original show, the revival blends humor with heartfelt storytelling, following life inside a teaching hospital. The series still features J.D.’s signature narration and imaginative daydream sequences, but the characters have evolved alongside the changing medical world.
Zach Braff says he worked to portray a more mature version of J.D., now older and more experienced, but still quirky and optimistic. The iconic friendship between J.D. and Turk remains central to the show, reflecting the real-life bond between Braff and Faison that helped define the original series.
The revival also introduces new interns, giving younger characters a chance to experience the pressures and excitement of modern medicine. Cast members say veteran actors helped create a welcoming environment, with regular group gatherings to build chemistry off screen.
Producers say the updated series aims to balance nostalgia with fresh storytelling, exploring how healthcare and medical training have changed while preserving the hopeful tone that made the original show resonate with audiences.
The new season premieres at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, with episodes available to stream on Hulu the following day.
