Riverside County Approves Measures to Stabilize Palo Verde Hospital

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors has approved a series of actions aimed at stabilizing Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe.

In February, the board approved a $3.45 million payment that allowed the Palo Verde Health Care District to qualify for a state funding program. That move secured nearly $9.9 million to help keep the hospital operating, with county officials confirming that about $8.9 million has already been received.

Supervisors also approved loan amendments and legal support tied to the district’s Chapter 9 bankruptcy proceedings. During this time, Riverside University Health System continues to provide temporary operational assistance to the hospital.

Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, who represents the eastern Coachella Valley, visited the hospital to assess progress and meet with leaders working to stabilize the facility.

Perez said the goal over the next several months is to strengthen coordination with the State of California while evaluating long-term options for the hospital’s future, whether that involves continued county support or a private healthcare partner.

Perez also praised the county’s strike response team for quickly addressing operational challenges and ensuring patients and families in the region continue to receive essential medical care.
