Baltimore “Ravens Loop” tunnel project scrapped one day after selection in Elon Musk venture

A proposed underground tunnel project in Baltimore is no longer moving forward—just one day after it was announced.

The project, known as the Ravens Loop, had been selected as one of 16 finalists in a competition led by The Boring Company, an infrastructure venture associated with Elon Musk. The idea was to construct a one-mile tunnel in Baltimore, similar to systems already developed in other cities.

The proposal was tied to the Baltimore Ravens, who had reportedly entered the competition independently. However, shortly after the announcement, both the team and The Boring Company confirmed the project would not proceed.

In a statement, the Ravens said the concept was still in an exploratory phase and that after discussions with public partners, they decided not to continue.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott supported that decision, noting the project would have required approval from city and state leadership. He indicated the proposal had not been coordinated with local officials and would not have been approved in its current form.

Details about the proposed tunnel remain limited, including its exact location and how it would have been integrated into the city’s infrastructure.

While the Ravens initially described the selection as a potential opportunity for innovation and investment, the quick withdrawal highlights the challenges of launching major infrastructure projects without early coordination from key government partners.
