Cathedral City Residents Demand Road Safety Changes After DUI Crash on McCallum Way
Residents in Cathedral City are raising concerns about road safety following a DUI crash that flipped a truck and damaged nearby vehicles.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. near McCallum Way and Olvera Road, where debris and broken glass could still be seen on the street the following day. Neighbors say the truck slammed into a parked car, shattering windows and causing significant damage.
NBC Palm Springs’ Brett Rosen spoke with residents who say crashes like this are becoming far too common in the area. Some neighbors say they were among the first on scene, describing hearing a loud boom before discovering the overturned vehicle.
Many are now calling on the city to take action, pointing to poor lighting and a lack of traffic calming measures like speed bumps as ongoing concerns. Residents say the area feels unsafe, especially with a school located nearby.
In response, Cathedral City’s Public Works Department says there are no immediate safety concerns identified at the location, but the street will be included in an ongoing traffic calming study.
Police are also reminding drivers that obeying speed limits, paying attention, and stopping at signs are key to preventing crashes.
For residents, however, the message is clear—they want changes before another serious accident happens.
