Earth Day 2026: Here's How the Coachella Valley Is Celebrating Today
The Coachella Valley is marking Earth Day with a string of free community events spread across multiple cities today, Wednesday, April 22.
The morning starts early in Cathedral City, where Century Park is hosting two back-to-back events. At 8 a.m., residents can join the Walking for Water 6K, a global awareness walk tied to water scarcity and the millions of people worldwide who travel long distances daily just to access clean water. Then from 10 a.m. to noon, S.C.R.A.P. Gallery, billed as the Art Museum for the Environment, hosts an Earth Day Art Party where families can turn recycled materials into eco-inspired artwork. Both events are free and open to all ages.
Also this morning in Palm Springs, Native Foods on East Palm Canyon Drive is celebrating a new milestone. The plant-based restaurant has officially earned approval from Blue Zones Project Palm Springs, a designation recognizing restaurants that make healthier eating easier for the whole community. Mayor Naomi Soto will be on hand for a ribbon cutting from 10 to 11 a.m., alongside free tastings, giveaways, and a pop-up farmer's market featuring fresh local produce from Aziz Farms.
Out in Rancho Mirage, the city's Sustainability Department is hosting an afternoon of hands-on activities at the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory. A tree planting ceremony kicks things off at 11 a.m., followed by indoor activities from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., including an animal presentation, interactive games, complimentary snow cones, and a station where attendees can learn to make their own laundry soap. Free trees are available while supplies last. The day closes at 4 p.m. with a screening of The Lorax.
All events today are free and family-friendly.
