World Premiere of "Cockroaches" Brings Southern Gothic Thrills to Palm Springs

PALM SPRINGS — The Revolution Stage Company is hosting the world premiere of "Cockroaches" this Thursday, April 23rd. The production arrives in the Coachella Valley through a specific partnership with the Del Shores Foundation, which works to find and elevate new LGBTQ+ playwrights and screenwriters living in the South.

The play, written by Emma Schillage, was the 2024 winner for Best Play. Schillage, a New Orleans native, describes the story as a Southern Gothic thriller that follows three sisters living in the Deep South. The siblings are forced to come to terms with one another and their family's history following their mother's most recent suicide attempt. While the sisters navigate their internal dynamics, a mysterious and potentially sinister threat begins to lurk within their home.

Director Emerson Collins, who also serves as the executive director of the Del Shores Foundation, noted that the script carries significant weight but is also balanced with humor. Schillage chose to bring the world premiere to Palm Springs and the Revolution Stage Company from a pool of five theater partners across the country because of a shared vision for the production.

"Cockroaches" runs for a limited engagement of only eight performances. The production officially opens Friday night, April 24th, and runs through May 3rd. Tickets are currently available through the Revolution Stage Company.
