Shooting Suspect Found Dead After Hours-Long Standoff in Palm Springs

Palm Springs police are investigating a shooting that left one man wounded and a suspect dead after a hours-long standoff in the 290 block of West San Rafael Drive on Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded around 2:35 p.m. to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, arriving to find a man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and helped investigators identify a known suspect who had fled into a nearby commercial building.

Police established containment around the building and spent hours attempting to make contact with the suspect. After those efforts failed, investigators obtained a search warrant to enter the location, where they found the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The identity of the suspect has not been released, though the Riverside County Coroner's Office is expected to release those details in the coming days.
