82 Dogs Seized in Cabazon Hoarding Case, County Seeks Help

Authorities in Cabazon have seized 82 dogs in a major animal hoarding case.

Riverside County Department of Animal Services served a warrant on property linked to John Dunlap, who was detained on suspicion of animal cruelty and neglect.

Officials say the case came to light after a nearby resident reported being bitten on April 18.

After several hours of work, crews removed dozens of dogs from the site. The animals are now being housed at a shelter in Blythe, where they will remain in quarantine for 10 days.

Authorities say most of the dogs appear to be friendly, and efforts are already underway to prepare them for adoption. The county is now calling on the public to help by fostering or adopting dogs currently at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus, which would allow space for the rescued animals to be transferred from Blythe.

Officials also noted that Dunlap was involved in a similar case in 2018, when more than 80 dogs were confiscated under comparable circumstances.

Anyone interested in fostering or adopting is encouraged to contact the Coachella Valley Animal Campus.
