Know Before You Go: Road Work and Closures Across the Valley This Week
UPDATE: N. Gene Autry and N. Indian Canyon Opened as of 10:30 a.m. Monday
Drivers across the Coachella Valley are dealing with a handful of road disruptions this week, from utility work in La Quinta to weather-related closures in Palm Springs.
In La Quinta, Imperial Irrigation District workers are continuing utility repairs along Washington Street near Avenue 47, close to Saint Francis of Assisi Church. Northbound lanes will be reduced to one lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. through the end of the week. Drivers looking to avoid the slowdown can take Avenue 48 to Dune Palms Road, or head south to Avenue 52 and cut over to Jefferson Street.
Over in Palm Springs, construction on the South Palm Canyon Bridge is moving into a new phase. Crews are finishing up rebar and formwork on the eastern end of the bridge, with the first concrete placement expected sometime in mid-May. Drivers passing through should slow down and expect continued activity in the area. Businesses along South Palm Canyon remain open throughout construction.
Earlier Monday morning, blowing sand and low visibility forced the closure of North Indian Canyon Drive and North Gene Autry Trail at the wash in Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs, both of which had been shut down since Sunday evening. As of 10:30 a.m., both roads have reopened.
