Steve Sumrall
Multi-media Journalist and Reporter
As Nbc Palm Springs resident historian, Steve currently produces the “Desert in a Minute” segments for the Roggin Report with Fred Roggin, as well as hosting the “Our community” segments.
Background
Steve began his career as an apprentice videographer and editor for Palm Springs city hall, where he recorded city council meetings and local events. This would eventually lead to a career in television that would span over 2 decades. Having spent most of his adult life in the coachella valley, he has a familiarity of our desert that has proven to be an asset. One of Steve's greatest interest is the history of the Coachella Valley, something he has been able to document and present to the viewing public. Steve also serves as NBC Palm Springs primary editor, working with the producers and reporters to build a better newscast.
Experience
In addition to having worked on several Emmy winning newscasts, Steve's work as an editor has led to a desert health wellness award in 2017 and a Golden Mic award in 2019. Since 2020, he was the primary writer and executive producer of “Our Desert Past”, a series of documentary features which explores local history. Steve also hosted that series from 2022 to 2024.
