California may be losing residents overall, but several cities across the state are seeing the opposite trend as families search for more affordable places to live.
New population data shows cities including Roseville, Elk Grove, Folsom, Lathrop, Menifee, Ontario, and Santa Clara are among California’s fastest-growing communities. Experts say housing costs, job opportunities, and quality of life are influencing where residents decide to relocate.
Smaller cities are becoming increasingly attractive for people looking to move away from some of California’s most expensive metropolitan areas. Communities with room for development, strong schools, and safer neighborhoods are drawing attention from families priced out of larger cities.
Menifee, located in Riverside County, was highlighted as an example of a city experiencing rapid transformation. Once a smaller community, it has seen major growth in housing, roads, and businesses as more people move inland from areas like Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego.
Other communities, including Roseville in Northern California, are also gaining popularity for their planning, affordability, and access to amenities while maintaining a smaller-city feel.
The trend suggests California’s future growth may continue shifting toward developing communities outside major urban centers. As cities become more crowded and housing prices continue to rise, areas with available land and lower costs could see even more growth in the years ahead.
Communities in Riverside County, including Winchester, Hemet, and San Jacinto, may also be positioned for future expansion as more Californians look east for housing options and a different pace of life.
